Forum has been Hacked!
Unfortunately, the forum has been hacked. I've updated to the latest version, but this hasn't helped. I may just have to reset the whole thing, losing all the users/posts that were already on it........I'll keep trying to save it for a while first, though!

Photos of Chester Green
I'm trying to work out how to embed a google map with pictures into this site....but until I figure it out, for a view of some pictures from around Chester Green, have a look at the link to panoramio here. If you have any photos of Chester Green and you want them to appear on the linked map, just join Panoramio (it's free) and put up your pictures (marking where they were taken). They should then appear automatically! Please comment on this post if it doesn't seem to be working.....

John Lombe Drive
We have been liaising with Derby Homes for the past fourteen months to try and get the area around the small car park in John Lombe Drive smartened up. We were expecting this to be carried out by September last year, but have now been informed that it will not be completed until 2009 when all the areas owned by Derby Homes in Chester Green will be looked at

Pavilion on Parkers Piece
We've been campaigning (for 18 months!) to get some fencing around the back of the pavilion piece to stop it getting vandalised. Some fencing has finally been put up. It's not as substantial as we'd have hoped, but it's a start!

Lighting Round the Green
The conservation area lighting on the Chester Green Road side of the green is to be put on the St. Pauls Road side of the green as well. The council have also promised lighting fit for a conservation area throughout Chester Green, although some of the lights seem to have been changed already, this seems to be in error the council are aware of.....watch this space!

New Cycle Signage
After much behind the scenes work, the LCRA have managed to get the cycle path signs changed from the standard blue ones to signage designed for conservation areas. We think it looks much better!

Coach and Horses Car Park continued
The planning application appears to be in for the additional 'vehicular access' part of the plans. The planning reference number is 09/07/01696 and it can be viewed on the e-planning site hereThe consulation letters have gone out to a very small number of neighbours, so please do add your comments by clicking at the bottom of the page linked above ;-) Without this vehicular access planning consent, I don't think the build can go ahead. Do we have parking for another 3 houses and 5 flats on camp street? The plans for the houses and flats can be found here. Note there were 15 letters of objection to these plans. It was still granted. However, condition 6 states: 6) No dwellings shall be occupied until, after the granting of planning permission, a vehicle access / egress has been installed on Mansfield Road to serve the remaining public house car park. Precise details of the layout of the remaining car park shall also be submitted to and agreed in writing by the Local Planning Authority.

New Recycling Facilities in Chester Green
We have apparantley received new facilities where we can recycle our waste, here in Chester Green. A statement from the Waste Management Inspector is below: A decision has finally been made to place recycling banks down on the car park next to the tennis courts. These have been installed today and a litter bin will be put out there next week. Obviously we will monitor the site and if similar problems occur we may well have to bring the site in again. Fingerscrossed this won't happen!!

Coach and Horses Car Park
There was movement on the the coach and horses car park this morning in the form of some fencing being brought to the site. Does this mean that the flats originally proposed will be built? Is it the brewery fencing off the wasteland? Is it a new owner ? Who knows! More info/gossip when I get it!

As mentioned in the latest Little Chester Independent newsletter, we have passed details of the redevelopment of the vivian street former garage site to local residents (those located between Roman Road and the Coach and Horses). View and Contribute to Derbyshire's Past
A new site has come to my attention. You and Yesterday is all about Derbyshire's past and is a Wiki, meaning that the content can be easily added to by its users. So, if you've got any good old photos, get posting. If not, why not have a read and perhaps add some text to the site! As an example, a story about the floods of 1965 can be found here.

Gypsies gone.....
.....just their mess (as in rubbish, and as in 'dog mess' - turns out dog owners can be fined, Gypsies can't!) left behind, so I'm told. I think we need to find out exactly what powers the police do have in these situations as I'm surprised at what an easy target we were here in Chester Green - 300m from the nearest police station. As far as most people can see, they don't seem to have any (although I'm sure if I tried to settle on council land by causing criminal damage, I'd be arrested........)

Darley Fields Update
Various things to report. 1. The Gypsies should be gone by Friday as they are, apparently, here for a wake. 2. Apparently the information I received regarding the police was wrong. Sorry! The gypsies had already established themselves on the fields by the time the police arrived (which took a couple of hours as they were all involved in the Derby County parade). Up to the minute news is useless if it's wrong......sorry to those whose good names I have besmirched.... ;-) More news (hopefully correct....), as and when I get it!

Local Police Contacts.
Perhaps given the current news, and the fact that several residents have been verbally abused by the gypsies already, you might want details of our local bobbies (so they can move you on to stop you bothering them, I imagine!) They can be found > here< (Chester Green comes under Darley, when it comes to policing issues)

Gypsies Update
We have been informed by the parks dept. that the park Rangers did try and stop the gypsies getting onto the park by parking vans in their way. However, the police actually made the rangers move out of the way to let the gypsies onto our park!!!! Unbelievable! As always, if you want to contact the police, you can ring them on 0845 123 3333.

Gypsies on Darley Fields
Gypsies have broken down the barriers and parked themselves on Darley Fields. The last time Chester Green had gypsies on the Green, a mob of around 200-300 people managed to clear them off. The rangers and police know about the problem, although they can be hard to shift.....
